-What is your favourite sit-down restaurant?
Any good barbecue place.
-What food could you eat every day for two weeks and not get sick of?
Bran flakes, apparently. And possibly chocolate chip cookies, but I haven't tested that one.
-What are your pizza toppings of choice?
Sausage and onions.
-What do you like to put on your toast?
Butter. I hope it's raisin toast.
-How many TVs are there in your home?
One. An ancient console TV from the 80's.
-What colour is your cell phone?
Er... I think it's dark blue-ish? I didn't really pick by color.
-Do you have an iPod?
Yes, an old nano that I still like a lot. I'm wary of the touch-screen stuff on the new ones; I like the click wheel, because it lets me do all kinds of stuff without really looking. I also have an ancient brick of a fourth-generation original iPod.
-Are you right-handed or left-handed?
Right, but I use my left for a lot of things because the grip is stronger.
-Have you ever had anything removed from your body?
Nope. I've had additions, but no subtractions. Oh, wait, three of my wisdom teeth. Does that count?
-What is the last heavy item you lifted?
Yesterday, the living room chair and kitty condo while we were vacuuming.
-Have you ever been knocked unconscious?
-If it were possible, would you want to know the day you were going to die?
No. I'd just obsess over it. I don't even want to know when my dental appointments are.
-If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
I already did, so I'm pretty happy with the one I have.
-Would you drink an entire bottle of hot sauce for $1000?
No. I don't think I could actually do it, for one thing.
Fall. I love the sudden briskness in the air after lazy sleepy sweaty summer. I go to Wisconsin every October just to feel what fall is like.
I usually say Halloween, because I love fall so much, but I've developed a soft spot for Christmas. Not the religious stuff, or the more extreme commercialism, but Christmas Eve with the twinkling lights in the living room and Christmas carols on the TV (I actually like Christmas music) and a fire in the fireplace and the coziness of being with Ken and the cats. And the peace of being all done with the shopping part, and looking at the shiny presents under the tree. Or on the hearth, as the case may be. We didn't get a tree last year, but I ended up not minding; we decorated a little wreath instead, so there was some living pine-y thing in the house.
October. Because it is during fall. Have you not been paying attention?
No, he'll wake up in a little while.
-What are you listening to?
Just some random birds twittering outside.
I'm not actually worried about anything, for the moment. Which is impressive, because I'm a professional worrier.
-First place you went this morning?
-What's the last movie you saw?
Cowboys and Aliens. Fun, but not quite as much fun as I was hoping.
OTHEROLOGY (how does "other" differ from "random"?)
-Ever got pulled over by a cop?
I don't drive, but I've been in a car that was pulled over. Nothing dramatic.
-How many pairs of flip flops do you own?
-Last person you talked to?
-Last person you hugged?
Coworker who finally gave me the chair she'd been hoarding. I actually went to hug the chair, to be silly, but she thought I was hugging her and intercepted it, so I kind of head-butted her.
-Do you always answer your phone?
I answer the cell phone if I recognize the number (which I ought to, since I have numbers that aren't on my contact list blocked). We never answer the landline, because it's always the Red Cross or some annoying survey. If it's something important, they can leave a message on the answering machine.
-It's four in the morning and you get a text message, who is it?
Nobody, because I have text messages blocked too. All I ever got were wrong numbers. I re-enable it now and then for things like Comic-Con, but that's all. My phone doesn't have a full keyboard or anything, so texting is really laborious.
-If you could change your eye colour what would it be?
I don't mind blue, but I might like a really light or really dark blue instead of my dull middling blue.
-Do you own a digital camera?
Yes, it's aging but I still like it quite a bit. I've taken about 16,000 pictures with it.
-Have you ever had a pet fish?
Many, but never for very long. I did have a goldfish that lived a good couple of years and went to college with me. I've sworn off fishbowls, because it's difficult to really properly care for a fish in one. And I lack the motivation to set up a real aquarium.
-Favourite Christmas song(s)
O Holy Night, maybe. I like a lot of them. I do get sick of hearing them nonstop everywhere for two months, but I enjoy them a lot longer than most people do. I really enjoy going out shopping in San Diego's outdoor malls at night when they're playing Christmas music.
-What's on your wish list for your birthday?
My birthday's not for a long time, and since it's right after Christmas I rarely have much of a wish list. Right now, I don't have many burning desires. Pants that fit, a new pair of Hersey shoes, a few books from my Amazon wishlist. Okay, I'm thinking a little bit about a new camera with image stabilization.
-Can you do push ups?
It's been a very long time since I tried, so I really can't say.
-Does the future make you more nervous or excited?
I'm not sure. I don't usually think of it in those terms.
-Do you have any saved texts?
I probably still have most of the (very few) texts I've ever received.
-Have you ever been in a car accident?
Just a fender-bender. Actually, the fender didn't even get bent. Just a bump. We were rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway on the way to Thanksgiving dinner. Shook us up a bit but didn't hurt anything.
-Do you have an accent?
I've probably got a little bit of that flat Wisconsin-y thing going on, but only if you pay attention to certain words. I don't think people notice it much day to day. Ken and I pronounce some words differently, but we never notice it unless one of those online surveys is pointing it out. I sometimes make him say "Mary, marry and merry" for entertainment, because to me all these words are identical.
-Name 3 things you bought yesterday?
Breakfast at Denny's, a birthday gift for Ken (online)... and that was it. We played mini golf, but that was with a Groupon I bought months ago.
-Have you ever been given roses?
No. The only flowers I've ever been given were some daisies for my 30th birthday, from my boss at work. My husband has never given me flowers of any kind. (If he's reading this, he should probably stop and go get some now. I'll wait.)
-Met someone who changed your life?
Yes. He's out getting me flowers right now.
-How will you bring in the New Year?
At home, probably in pajamas. We never do fancy stuff for New Year's.
-What song represents you?
Well, that's a big question. I have a playlist of ten or so favorite songs, but I'm not sure I feel adequately represented by just one.
-Would you go back in time if you were given the chance?
Yes, as long as it's temporary. But I'd rather go forward and see what the distant future is really like.
-Have you ever dated someone longer than a year?
Yep. Thirteen years and counting.
